Guilty Verdict In Peninsula Teen Rape Case
REDWOOD CITY (BCN) ―
A 30-year-old man will spend the rest of his life in prison after a Redwood City jury found him guilty Monday of raping a teenage girl at knifepoint on his birthday in 2004, a deputy district attorney said Tuesday.
After just over one day of deliberations, the jury found Jambri Johnson guilty of eight felony counts of sexual assault with special allegations, San Mateo County Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
Johnson will be sentenced Jan. 20, 2009, and faces more than 200 years to life in prison, according to Wagstaffe.
On April 4, 2004, at about 1 or 2 a.m., Johnson snuck into the 14-year-old victim's bedroom at her East Palo Alto house where her parents were sleeping in the next room, held her at knifepoint and sexually assaulted her, Wagstaffe said.
Johnson escaped but his DNA was found on the victim's bedding and clothing, Wagstaffe said.
The state DNA bank kept a record of the DNA but did not locate a match until about a year ago when Johnson was incarcerated for theft in Santa Clara County, Wagstaffe said.
He was then arrested for the rape and put to trial.
Wagstaffe said the victim, now 18, testified during the trial, and that she and her parents were present in the courtroom Monday when the verdicts were read.
