If it seems as if you've been getting more parking tickets in San Francisco lately, it's not your imagination. The city's meter-minders actually have been slapping more citations onto windshields.
This comes as the fines went up in August, meaning each ticket costs at least $50 a pop.
Judson True with the San Francisco Metropolitan Transportation Authority said the number of citations has generally been down, but they spiked up in September by 3.8 percent. But he said that it's not because the parking department is out to balance the budget all by itself.
"Our goal is not to write citations to hit people in these tough times, it's really to try to keep our streets clear, to provide turnover for merchants, and keep our economy going," said True.
