4 Companies Form Partnership To Rebuild SF Parks

 Environment & The Green Beat

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ― Four major companies and a nonprofit announced a partnership Thursday to rebuild three San Francisco parks within the next three years.

Banana Republic, Levi Strauss Foundation, McKesson Corp., Pacific Gas and Electric Co. and the Trust for Public Land are helping raise money to transform Hayes Valley Playground, Balboa Park and Boeddeker Park in the Tenderloin by 2011.

The four companies issued a $4 million challenge grant, which requires the Trust for Public Land to raise an additional $4 million by Aug. 31. The Trust for Public Land has raised $2.1 million since September.

If the trust doesn't raise the $4 million, the companies are not required to grant the $4 million in return, trust spokeswoman Nicole Lampe said.

However the trust will still use the money it raised to renovate the parks even if it doesn't reach $4 million, Lampe said.
