Suspect In Silicon-Valley Triple Murder Arrested

MOUNTAIN VIEW (CBS 5 / AP) ― A 47-year-old engineer suspected of slaying three of his former co-workers at a Silicon Valley high-tech firm was arrested Saturday by police.

Jing Hua Wu was arrested after a daylong manhunt that ended about 10:45 a.m. at the intersection of Grant Road and El Camino Real in his home city of Mountain View.

He was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on three counts of murder.

Wu had been laid off Friday from his job as a product test engineer by SiPort Inc., but he returned hours later to the company's Santa Clara office and asked for a meeting around 4 p.m. with the three shooting victims, police said.

"He requested a meeting with several company officials," said Santa Clara Police Chief Stephen Lodge. "It was during this meeting that Jing Wu took out a nine-millimeter handgun and shot and killed all three officials."

The victims were identified as SiPort's chief executive officer Sid Agrawal, 56, of Fremont; the company's vice president of operations Brian Pugh, 47, of Los Altos; and Marilyn Lewis, 67, of San Jose, the company's head of human resources.

Detectives said they received a tip about Wu's whereabouts on Saturday morning, and were waiting for him as he exited his silver SUV near a shop in Mountain View.

Wu, who is married and has twin sons, was not armed when he was arrested, and officers did not find a gun in his vehicle, police said.

Wu had been missing since the Friday afternoon shootings at the offices of the 4-year-old company that develops digital radio semiconductors.

SiPort's Web site states that the company was incorporated in 2004 and received its first round of funding in 2005. Additional information from the Web site was unavailable, as links to information about management and investors were down on Saturday.

"This is a truly tragic event. These people are innocent victims just trying to do their jobs," said Santa Clara Police Lt. Mike Sellers. "To get him into custody within hours of the event was very, very important to our department."

Sellers said investigators were still examining the exact motive for the shootings: "He was recently let go from the company, so that is a possible motive."

With the investigation ongoing, Sellers asked anyone with information in the case to contact police at (408) 615-4800.
