Underground Explosion Injures 2 Workers In Oakland

OAKLAND (BCN) ― Two construction workers were taken to a burn center in San Francisco after they struck an underground electrical line in Oakland Wednesday morning and caused an explosion, a fire lieutenant said.

The explosion was reported at about 9 a.m. in front of 1950 Franklin St. where the two workers were excavating, said fire Lt. David Brue.

Brue did not know how badly they were hurt.

No evacuations or damage occurred except for underground and no one lost power, he said.

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health is investigating the incident.
