OAKLAND (BCN) ―
A man was shot in the back in Oakland Tuesday night just a few blocks from a shooting that injured two men the previous night, according to police.
Officers were called around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday to reports of a shooting in the 1900 block of Filbert Street, police said. The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Tuesday night's shooting follows a series of shootings, one fatal, reported between Monday night and early Tuesday morning, according to police.
The string of shootings began around 9:20 p.m. Monday when two men were injured in the 900 block of Filbert Street, Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason said. Both men were reported in stable condition.
Another shooting, at about 10:45 p.m., brought officers to the 2600 block of 82nd Avenue and left a male victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to Thomason.
About 15 minutes later, a man was shot and injured in the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Thomason said. The suspects were described as four male juveniles.
Then, at about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, a man was shot in the leg in the 1200 block of 99th Avenue, according to Thomason. The victim underwent surgery and was reported to be in stable condition.
A 33-year-old Oakland man was killed in another shooting early Tuesday morning, raising the city's homicide tally to 74 for the year, according to police spokesman Roland Holmgren.
Officers located the victim in a vehicle in the 8700 block of Bancroft Avenue around 2:45 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.
Police found evidence indicating the shooting took place in the 2100 block of 88th Avenue.
Thomason said Tuesday that there was no indication that any of the shootings are related.
Anyone with information regarding the crimes is asked to call Oakland police homicide detectives at (510) 238-3821.
