New Takeover Robbery At Oakland Restaurant

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

OAKLAND (BCN) ― A Mexican restaurant on International Boulevard near 35th Avenue was robbed Monday night, the third straight night an Oakland restaurant has been hit by a takeover-style robbery, Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason said Tuesday.

Thomason said Taqueria El Farolito at 3646 International Blvd. was robbed by three armed black men wearing ski masks about 10:30 p.m. Monday.

He said the suspects, who robbed both employees and patrons, fled on foot. No one was injured.

Thomason said the robbery is still under investigation and that "it's way too early" to tell if it's related to other robberies the last several nights.

The first in the recent string of takeover robberies occurred at a restaurant in the 400 block of East 12th Street about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, according to Thomason.

He said three black men entered the restaurant, robbed patrons and fled.
Thomason said one employee complained of injuries but didn't seek medical treatment.

The second incident occurred at the Bay Fung Tong Tea House, a Chinese restaurant at 1916 Franklin St., about 9:35 p.m. Sunday, Thomason said.

He said three black men robbed nine victims and fled.

Thomason said a separate incident occurred at the Gregoire takeout
restaurant in the 4000 block of Piedmont Avenue a few minutes later, at 9:42 p.m. Sunday.

He said one white male suspect robbed the business and fled.

There was a series of takeover robberies at Oakland restaurants
earlier this year but several suspects were arrested in connection with those crimes.
