A nine-hour standoff with a man who fired a gunshot at police and refused to leave an apartment in Oakland ended without incident Saturday morning when the man voluntarily exited the building, according to officials.
Officers received reports at 7:25 p.m. Friday that a person was entering an apartment complex at Third and Oak streets with a butcher knife, police said.
When the officers responded the suspect fired one shot at police through a window, according to officials.
No one was struck by the bullet.
The man then refused to leave the apartment. Hostage negotiators and an entry team responded to the scene and attempted to make contact with the man via the telephone.
At 4:25 a.m., the man turned himself in to police custody without incident and was arrested for felony assault on a police officer, officials said.
A woman and two children were inside the apartment with the man during the standoff, and police said the incident may have stemmed from a domestic dispute.
