2 Oakland Council Members Settle Parking Spot Flap

OAKLAND (CBS 5) ― Two members of the Oakland City Council who have argued over a parking spot in front of City Hall have reportedly settled their dispute.

It all began three months ago when Council Members Jean Quan and Desley Brooks got into a tug of war over who should be allowed to park in a prime space right next to the City Hall entrance, with Council President Jane Brunner playing the reluctant referee.

Brunner said the decision should be based on seniority, but both Brooks and Quan the same level of seniority.

Brooks wanted a legal opinion from the City Attorney, which issued a five-page opinion and also determined a tie.

CBS 5 Insider Phil Matier reported in the San Francisco Chronicle the dispute was resolved by a coin toss, where Brooks won according to Council President Brunner. Before the resolution, the space went to whoever arrived first each day.
