In his push to reach a bigger audience, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom is thinking out of the box.
He knows he can't keep everyone riveted with the minutia of fixing the food stamp program, but he also wants to be able to delve into the details for whoever wants to hear.
And where do people go when they want to say whatever they want, for as long as they want? YouTube.
His speech is seven and a half hours, edited into ten chapters. The first one was online Monday, focusing on health, education and the environment. Tuesday it's transportation, Wednesday is violence prevention, Thursday the economy, and on Friday Newsom will discuss emergency planning.
"We have an opportunity to do something a little bit differently by engaging you directly in the issues of the day here in our great city," said Newsom on the video.
Listen for a minute, an hour, or five or six hours if you want he says, you've got cable on demand, why not the state of the city.
