 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

NEWARK (BCN) ― Three Oakland men were arrested Wednesday morning and a fourth is still outstanding after police officers allegedly found the group breaking into a Newark home.

Police said they received a report of a prowler in the 36100 block of Cedar Boulevard around 9:45 a.m. Responding officers found 21-year-old Raymond Edmonds in an awaiting vehicle nearby on Sandalwood Street and detained him, the Police Department reported.

Additional officers went to a nearby backyard and found three additional suspects who fled by jumping fences.

According to police, 21-year-old Lejon Mabon was taken into custody without incident. Lonnie Guidtry, 18, continued to flee and threw rocks at a pursuing officer but was eventually detained, police said.

Officers searched the home and the surrounding area but were unable to locate the fourth suspect. Police said the men were responsible for a residential burglary near where the call had been reported.

The detained suspects are being charged with burglary and Mabon will additionally be charged with fleeing from officers. Guidtry is also being charged with fleeing from and assault of an officer.

Anyone with information about the case can call Newark police at (510) 578-4237 or the anonymous tip line at (510) 794-1400 ext. 334.
