Investigators Probe Suspicious Napa Co. Wildfires
NAPA COUNTY (BCN) ―
Cal Fire is still investigating the cause of two separate brush and woodland fires within five miles in the Pope Valley in northern Napa County area Wednesday afternoon, Battalion Chief Pete Munoa said Thursday morning.
The fires were considered suspicious but have not been determined to be arson, Munoa said.
The first fire, the "Canyon Fire" in the Butts Canyon Road and James Creek area, burned 20 acres of grass and woodland. It was reported at 12:50 p.m. and was contained at 1:47 p.m., Munoa said.
The fire moved quickly along slopes in the area and residences were threatened but none burned, Munoa said.
The second fire, the "Pope Fire" in the Chilles & Pope Valley Road and Pope Canyon Road area northeast of Angwin burned 7 ½ acres of timber, Munoa said.
It was reported at 1:08 p.m. and was contained at 2:41 p.m. Homes were threatened but did not burn.
No injuries were reported at either fire.
