Highway 1 Reopens After Mudslide Cleared

 Real-Time Traffic Conditions

SAN MATEO (CBS 5 / BCN) ― A mudslide Friday closed both directions of state Highway 1 near Devil's Slide in unincorporated San Mateo County for nearly six hours, according to the California Department of Transportation.

The slide happened around 3:30 p.m., Caltrans spokeswoman Lauren Wonder said. Crews at the scene, located between Half Moon Bay and Pacifica, were able to clear the roadway and reopen it shortly before 9:30 p.m.

Early warning signs along the road had alerted drivers of the closure throughout the afternoon and evening, Wonder said. To navigate around the slide during the closure, drivers used state Highway 92 or 35 to reach Interstate Highway 280.
