Project Keeps Track Of Bay Area Mountain Lions

Kiet Do, Reporting.
SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS (CBS 5) ― When you think of mountain lions in the Bay Area, the one thing that comes to mind is fear. But a groundbreaking new project has discovered they are a lot more worried about us, than we are of them.

The Bay Area Puma Project is now a year old. Researchers have so far tagged 10 pumas, or mountain lions, both young and old, in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The cats wear GPS collars with accelerometers that not only track their location, but also when the cats are sleeping, eating or hunting.

Our video report has more.
