Mountain Lion Spotted In Monterey Park
MONTEREY (BCN) ―
A mountain lion was spotted Thursday by a woman walking her dog in a Monterey park, police reported.
At about 9:40 a.m. a woman walking in Via Paraiso Park saw a mountain lion in a gully near the baseball field.
The mountain lion followed the woman through the park but did not jump or charge her. When she reached the intersection of Herrmann Drive and Via Paraiso, the woman sought shelter in a tool shed, police said.
Shortly after, other witnesses saw the animal running up Herrmann Drive toward Via Del Pinar, but it was not located.
Monterey police and animal control officials conducted a door-to-door search of the area and notified residents of the sighting. Monterey High School and Veterans Memorial Park have also been notified.
The California Department of Fish and Game was contacted regarding the sighting.
