National Guard Rescues SJ Hiker Off Mt. Shasta

MOUNT SHASTA (AP) ― A California National Guard helicopter has rescued a 32-year-old San Jose man who suffered a broken leg while climbing Mount Shasta.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Department says Kyle Donnici was injured Thursday night when he slipped walking across Hotlum Glacier.

Donnici was with five other hikers and two guides, who helped him back to their base camp. A National Guard helicopter and medical personnel from Mather Field near Sacramento airlifted Donnici on Friday to Mercy Medical Center in the town of Mount Shasta.

The medical center would not release information on Donnici's condition Friday.
