2nd Lockdown In 2 Months At Mount Diablo High

CONCORD (CBS 5 / KCBS / BCN) ― Mt. Diablo High School in Concord was locked down for more than two hours this afternoon due to an unfounded report of a man with a gun who had entered the campus, a police corporal said.

At 3:07 p.m., just minutes before the school was scheduled to let out, police responded to the campus at 2450 Grant St. after a student reported seeing an intruder with a gun, Cpl. Darryl Holcombe said.

School officials had independently locked down the campus before officers arrived, keeping approximately 1,800 students in their classrooms, Holcombe said.

He said the suspect was only described as a man wearing a jacket and although the report was determined to be unfounded, it does not appear to be a hoax.

Officers investigated the incident, determined the campus was safe and then worked with school officials to lift the lockdown and release students around 5:30 p.m., Holcombe said.

This is the second time the campus has been locked down in just over a month. The last lockdown occurred on October 14 after a verbal altercation led to rumors about a possible gun on campus.
