Motorcyclist Survives Petaluma Crash With Big Rig
PETALUMA (BCN) ―
A Cotati man escaped major injuries when his motorcycle slammed into the rear tires of a livestock tractor-trailer on Stony Point Road Friday morning, Petaluma police said.
James Frates, 53, collided with the tractor-trailer around 8:45 a.m. north of Petaluma Boulevard, Sgt. Ken Savano said.
The motorcycle came to rest under the rear wheels of the big-rig but fortunately its driver stopped immediately preventing further injury to Frates, Savano said.
The tractor-trailer was making a left turn on Stony Point Road when Frates, who was riding behind it, struck the left rear tires.
Frates was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening, Savano said.
A preliminary investigation indicates alcohol on the part of the motorcycle rider may be a factor in the crash, Savano said. The left turn by the tractor-trailer does not appear to have caused the collision.
