A motorcyclist led the California Highway Patrol from the Sierra Nevada to the Bay Area on Thursday in a high speed chase that reached speeds of 100 miles per hour, according to authorities.
The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Pedro Alberto Sermeno, allegedly fled from a speed-related traffic stop in Truckee at about 2:17 p.m. and raced down to Benicia by about 3:50 p.m., according to authorities.
The suspect jumped off the motorcycle near 4440 Turner Road in Benicia and was arrested.
Sermeno did not have any warrants and possessed a valid license, leaving authorities perplexed as to why he allegedly fled from officers in the first place. A statement from the California Highway Patrol said Sermeno was not under the influence of alcohol.
Sermeno has been booked for reckless evading and is being held at the Solano County Jail.
