Mother, Son Accused In Peninsula Store Robbery
MENLO PARK (BCN) ―
A 34-year-old woman and her 18-year-old son were arrested early Wednesday morning in connection with a robbery of a convenience store in Menlo Park, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.
Darlene Barnes and her son Darrell Dawayne Reed, both of Redwood City, were arrested after sheriff's deputies responded around 3 a.m. to an armed robbery at the Quik Stop Market at 3401 Middlefield Road.
The deputies saw a vehicle driven by a woman leaving the area of the robbery and stopped the vehicle, according to the sheriff's office.
A man, later identified as Reed, ran from the vehicle but was chased down by the deputies and eventually arrested on Third Avenue, according to the sheriff's office.
The woman fled in the vehicle while the deputies chased Reed, and the vehicle was later found unoccupied in the 500 block of Stanford Avenue with several items allegedly stolen from the store still in it, including cigarettes, bottles of alcohol and cash.
While deputies investigated the vehicle, the woman, identified as Barnes, returned to the area where she was recognized and arrested.
A third suspect, who allegedly robbed the store along with Reed while Barnes drove the vehicle, is still at large, according to the sheriff's office.
Anyone who may have information about the case is encouraged to call Detective Frank Taylor at (650) 363-4363.
