SoCal Man Goes Missing In Belmont

BELMONT (BCN) ― Authorities on Thursday are asking for the public's help in finding a 21-year-old Southern California man with a mental disability who failed to return to a Belmont motel he was staying at with his parents.

Shant Furuli-Vogt, who is sometimes called "Shanti," had traveled to the Bay Area with his parents from Calabasas. He was dropped off at an AM/PM Mini Market at 470 Ralston Ave. around 9:30 p.m. Sunday and was supposed to walk back to the nearby Motel 6 where he and his parents were staying, police said.

He suffers from a mental illness and takes medication, but is not believed to have his medication with him. He reportedly has the mental age of about a 15-year-old, police said.

Furuli-Vogt is white and has brown hair and blue eyes. He is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds.

Authorities believe he may be heading to San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury neighborhood.

"We don't have any evidence that there's foul play involved, but we don't know where he is," Belmont police Lt. Patrick Halleran said.

Anyone who may have seen Furuli-Vogt is asked to call 911 or a local police station. Belmont police can be reached at (650) 595-7400.
