Man Arrested For Attempted Mill Valley Burglary

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

MILL VALLEY (BCN) ― The Marin County Sheriff's Office arrested a San Rafael man on suspicion of attempting to burglarize a Mill Valley home Wednesday.

The homeowner reported a man in a cream-colored Mercedes drove by her Laverne Avenue home three times Wednesday afternoon.

The driver then backed the car up her driveway, walked up the side of her home and tried to open a gate leading to the backyard, Sgt. Debra Barry said.

When the homeowner confronted the man, he said he was wondering if she needed yard work and ran to his car, Barry said.

Sheriff's deputies identified a suspect who was known to drive a similar car and located him about 45 minutes later near his San Rafael home, Barry said.

Deputy Josh Thaller stopped the vehicle and identified 53-year-old Gary Peralta as the attempted burglary suspect.

Peralta is on probation for petty theft and was booked into the Marin County jail for attempted burglary, possession of marijuana and violation of probation, Barry said.

He was being held under no bail on the probation violation charge and under $50,000 bail on the attempted burglary charge.
