30-Acre Grass Fire Near Martinez Contained
MARTINEZ (BCN) ―
Firefighters declared "shaky containment" at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday on a fire that scorched an estimated 30 acres of grass just outside Martinez, Contra Costa County Fire District spokeswoman Emily Hopkins said.
The fire was reported at 2:04 p.m. on Waterbird Way near Arthur Road not far from the Martinez dump.
"The fire came up over a hill within sight of some homes in Pacheco, but our engines were there protecting them," Hopkins said.
The fire district sent 10 engines and one truck to the two-alarm blaze. They also received mutual aid assistance from the East Bay Regional Park District and the Benicia Fire Department, Hopkins said.
No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire was not yet known.
Although full containment had yet to be declared, Hopkins said there was no visible smoke as of about 3 p.m. and the blaze wasn't expected to re-ignite.
A red flag warning has been issued for the area, however, signaling increased fire danger due to high temperatures, low humidity and gusty wind.
