Cars Torched In Martinez Auto Yard Fire
MARTINEZ (BCN) ―
Fire investigators in Martinez believe a fire in an auto yard Monday night was likely caused by bad electrical wiring in one of the vehicles.
At around 9:35 p.m., Martinez police and the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of several vehicles on fire at the Copart Auto Auction yard, located at 2701 Waterfront Road, according to police.
The fire was knocked down in about 30 minutes, police reported, but it managed to burn more than 20 vehicles and cause approximately $191,000 in damage before it was extinguished.
A preliminary investigation determined that the fire was most likely caused by a faulty electrical system in one of the vehicles, according to police. Fire investigators have yet to confirm the exact cause.
