Man Fatally Shot In E. Palo Alto Identified
E. PALO ALTO (BCN) ―
A man fatally shot in East Palo Alto late Thursday night has been identified as city resident Derrick Earl Powell Jr., according to the San Mateo County coroner's office.
The shooting was reported at about 11:40 p.m. in the 2700 block of Hunter Street, according to police.
Arriving officers found Powell lying on the porch of a nearby home, and discovered that he was bleeding from apparent gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Someone was already trying to aid Powell when the officers arrived, police said.
Powell was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting.
He was apparently in the area to visit with friends and intended to return to work at a local taxi company but was shot multiple times will sitting in a taxi, police said.
After he was shot, Powell managed to run across the street back to a porch of a friend's home, where he died.
