70-Yr.-Old Man Drowns While Fishing In Tomales Bay

TOMALES BAY (BCN) ― A 70-year-old man drowned after the aluminum fishing boat he was in was hit by a large wave and capsized Friday morning in Sonoma County's Tomales Bay, according to the sheriff's department.

The man was fishing with a friend when a large wave stuck the boat tipped it over shortly before 11 a.m., sending the man into the water, police said.

The man was unable to get himself back onboard the boat.

His friend flagged down another boater to help them, but they were unable to save the man once he was taken onboard, according to police.

The man was brought to the Bodega Bay Coast Guard Station where authorities pronounced him dead, police said.

The man's identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
