Los Gatos High Football Player Collapses, Dies
LOS GATOS (AP) ―
Friends and relatives of a 17-year-old Los Gatos High School football player say they are shocked and baffled by the teen's death.
Michael Halpin collapsed in front of the school Tuesday and died later at a hospital.
His family said Halpin underwent surgery about six weeks ago for a broken hand, but had no known pre-existing medical condition and had always been healthy.
His father, Timothy Halpin, said his son and a friend were walking near the math and science building when Michael's hand apparently began spasming. Michael clenched his hand, then fell to his knees and went unconscious.
An autopsy will be performed Wednesday.
