Hayward Man Killed In Hwy. 17 Motorcycle Crash
LOS GATOS (BCN) ―
The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office identified a man killed in a motorcycle collision in Los Gatos Saturday afternoon as 29-year-old Felipe Loza.
Loza, a Hayward resident, was with a group of motorcyclists riding on northbound state Highway 17 near Los Gatos-Saratoga Road about 4:45 p.m. when the group approached slower-moving traffic, the California Highway Patrol said.
For an unknown reason, Loza and another motorcyclist collided and overturned.
Loza and the 35-year-old Oakland man with a 35-year-old Oakland woman as his passenger were ejected from their motorcycles, according to the CHP.
Emergency crews responded and Loza was pronounced dead on the scene, the CHP said. The Oakland man sustained minor injuries and his passenger sustained major injuries.
Both were transported to a nearby hospital.
A third motorcyclist, a 45-year-old Hayward man, crashed attempting to avoid the collision.
His bike overturned and ejected him in the crash.
He sustained minor injuries, the CHP said.
Both northbound lanes of Highway 17 were closed for about three hours following the crash to allow for cleanup and an investigation.
