SF Police Investigate Apparent Transgender Murder

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5 / BCN) ― Homicide inspectors are looking into the apparent murder of a 30-year-old transgender person whose body was found naked early Friday morning on a sidewalk in an industrial area of the city's Potrero Hill district.

Authorities do not know the identity of the victim, who was found around 5:40 a.m. on the 1600 block of Indiana Street near Cesar Chavez Street and Interstate 280. No details were immediately available on how the victim may have been killed.

Investigators hope a possible witness will come forward and shed light on the mystery.

That possible witness -- described by police as a white female around 25 years old -- was seen hitchhiking in the nude on Cesar Chavez Street around 8 a.m., police said. Witnesses said they saw her get into a blue metallic car near the southbound Highway 101 onramp at Cesar Chavez Street.

Police believe she may have a connection to the victim but did not elaborate.

The victim is described as a slender, Latin, "male-to-female transgender" with shoulder-length dark hair. Police said the victim had some operations performed to become female. The body was found with knife-like scars on both arms.

Police are urging anyone with information about the victim or witness to call homicide inspectors Karen Lynch or Tom Cleary at (415) 553-1145. A confidential tip line is also available at (415) 575-4444.
