'Little Saigon' Dist. Causing Big Problems In SJ

SAN JOSE (CBS 5 / KCBS) ― Many in San Jose's large Vietnamese community are still demanding that a stretch of Story Road be named "Little Saigon," even though the city council already voted for "Saigon Business District."

"It's so generic. I mean, it's good, but it's not the best. Little Saigon is the best," said one San Jose resident.

Supporters of the "Little Saigon" moniker are now threatening to recall councilmember Madison Nguyen, unless the city changes its decision.

"Obviously this is a very contentious issue," said Nguyen. "But I think that the proposed name is a legitimate and appropriate name that represents the majority of the Vietnamese American community's sentiment."

Around 2,000 "Little Saigon" supporters voted Sunday to send a letter to the city council requesting that they vote again.
