1 Killed In Jet Ski Crash Near Discovery Bay

One person was killed and a second person was injured Sunday when two jet skiers collided in mid-air in Middle River near Discovery Bay, San Joaquin County Sheriff's spokesman Les Garcia said Wednesday.

The two jet skiers were jumping the wake behind a larger vessel when they crashed into each other about 3:50 p.m., Garcia said.

One person suffered massive head trauma and died, Garcia said.

The collision happened on Middle River about a mile from Union Point in San Joaquin County, Garcia said.

Contra Costa County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene first, but turned the investigation over to the San Joaquin County Sheriff's office when their investigators arrived.

The name of the person who was killed was not being released because deputies had not been able to locate the person's family, Garcia said.
