Hunter Missing In Calaveras County Found Safe
ARNOLD (CBS 5 / AP) ―
A hunter missing most of the week in the wilderness of Calaveras County has been found safe.
After being reported missing Tuesday, Calaveras County authorities say Devin Smith was found walking on a road Friday by two deer hunters.
The 37-year-old Smith went into the woods on a hunting trip Monday near Arnold, a tiny community about 95 miles southeast of Sacramento.
He said he became lost when he missed a road during his hunt.
While he was in the woods, Smith had only a couple of granola bars to eat. Though he did have matches, so he was able to keep warm by lighting a fire.
Smith was taken to a hospital Friday, where he was given intravenous fluids.
A doctor says he was suffering from dehydration, exposure and mild starvation.
