Toddler Drowns In Hot Tub At Union City Party
UNION CITY (BCN) ―
A toddler who drowned in a hot tub at a Union City condominium complex Sunday evening has been identified as 2-year-old Fremont resident Drew Michael, according to the Alameda County coroner's bureau.
Drew and his family had attended a birthday party that day at the condominium complex in the 34200 block of Arizona Street, police said.
He had been in the hot tub earlier in the day with supervision. His parents were getting ready to go home at 5:17 p.m. when they discovered that the toddler had gone into the hot tub by himself and drowned, Union City police Lt. Kelly Musgrove said.
Family members called 911 and began CPR.
Police, who were just across the street from the complex, ran to help and took over efforts to revive Drew until firefighters arrived and began advanced life saving efforts, Musgrove said.
"Everyone was doing everything they could," Musgrove said.
Drew was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Musgrove said Drew's death is clearly a very tragic accident. His parents had done everything they were supposed to do and only took their eyes off the child for a second when he drowned, he said.
On Thursday, 2-year-old Hannah Spencer drowned in her family's pool in Concord. That case was reported around 5 p.m. in the 2700 block of Wexford Drive.
