Bay Area Nurses, Workers Launch 1-Day Strike

OAKLAND (AP) ― Healthcare workers walked the picket lines Wednesday as they begin a 24-hour strike against a group of hospitals in the Bay Area and Northern California.

Members of SEIU United Healthcare Workers-West went on strike at 6 a.m. at five Sutter Health facilities, five hospitals owned by Daughters of Charity Health System and Alliance Clinic.

Union reps say the strike comes after months of negotiations, with little progress made.

Hospital management says the one-day strike will have little impact on patient care.

Ten of the hospitals targeted by the strike are in the Bay Area and Northern California, with one in Southern California.
