Fatal Santa Rosa Motorcycle Crash Shuts Hwy. 12

A motorcyclist died Friday after crashing head-on into a small sedan on state Highway 12 in Santa Rosa, police said.

The collision happened around noon near Farmers Lane. A 2005 Yamaha FZR motorcycle was headed eastbound on highway 12 when its rider lost control on a turn and drifted into the westbound lane, police said. The motorcycle hit a 2007 Kia sedan head-on. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the Kia suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Police said it appeared the motorcyclist was not speeding.

The motorcyclist's name was not released pending notification of next of kin.
