The San Francisco Police Department's gang task force is monitoring the streets of the Mission District near the spot where the president of the Hells Angels San Francisco chapter was murdered earlier this week.
Mark Guardado, 45, was found suffering from gunshot wounds near the intersection of 24th Street and Treat Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said Guardado was shot by someone on a motorcycle who drove up to him and opened fire. Investigators believe the gunman was probably a member of a rival gang.
The shooting location was about a mile from the clubhouse of the San Francisco Hells Angels, one of the motorcycle group's oldest chapters in the country.
San Francisco police Sgt. Wilfred Williams said Thursday that gang task force units have been deployed to the area where the murder occurred to "look out for any possible retaliation."
No suspects had been arrested in the case.
Guardado's murder was the second in the Mission District in two days.
Around 5:15 a.m. Monday, officers responded to the first block of San Carlos Street where 24-year-old Marcelino Canul-Castro was found lying on the ground with gunshot wounds, police said.
The San Francisco resident was taken to a hospital where he later died.
