Thousands of Hells Angels members are heading to the Bay Area for the funeral of a club leader who was murdered last week. The primary suspect in the crime believed to be a member of a rival gang.
Memorial services are planned for Mark "Papa" Guardado who was gunned down around 10:30 p.m. Sept. 2 near the intersection of 24th Street and Treat Avenue in San Francisco's Mission District.
Hells Angels members are expected to flood into a Daly City mortuary Sunday for a viewing and Monday morning for the funeral services. After Monday's funeral, the motorcycle procession will start at the mortuary, pass the Hells Angels San Francisco clubhouse on Tennessee Street. and end at Cypress Lawn cemetery in Colma.
Police said Guardado, 46, was shot by a man on a motorcycle who drove up to him and opened fire.
Investigators said a witness indicated that the gunman was wearing an insignia for the rival "Mongols" gang. Officers are urging the Angels coming to town for the funeral not to retaliate against the Mongols.
Guardado's suspected killer, Christopher Ablett of Modesto, apparently a member of the Mongols.
An arrest warrant was issued for Ablett after detectives with the San Francisco Police Homicide Unit searched his home Thursday and seized a motorcycle he owns along with other potential evidence, SFPD Inspector Tom Cleary said.
Police say they'll have extra patrols in place for the funeral.
