SF Asks Appeals Court To Greenlight Health Plan
SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ―
San Francisco officials are asking an appeals court for permission to go ahead with a city program providing basic health care to uninsured residents despite a judge's decision to strike down one of the plan's key provision.
U.S. District Judge Jeffrey White ruled Wednesday that employers cannot be required to subsidize the ambitious plan.
The Healthy San Francisco program was set to be implemented on January 1. A limited version of the program went into effect in July, with 7,350 participants.
The city is asking the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for an emergency stay of the judge's ruling.
City leaders want to go ahead with the new health plan while they appeal Judge White's decision.
