Hayward police are investigating a takeover robbery Monday night at a Chinese restaurant, the latest in a series of similar-style robberies in the East Bay.
Two suspects armed with handguns entered the Great River restaurant at 22218 Foothill Blvd. at about 8:10 p.m. and robbed two customers, police Lt. Roger Keener said.
The suspects have been described as black males who were both wearing black clothing, Keener said. One suspect wore a knit cap and ski mask while another had a long-sleeved hooded sweatshirt covering his head, according to police.
One suspect went directly to two customers at a table and took a wallet and a purse, Keener said. The other suspect accosted a hostess and chased her toward the back of the restaurant. However, the first suspect called out from the front of the restaurant and the suspects fled, Keener said.
The suspects have not been arrested, Keener said.
The robbery is the latest in a string of similar robberies recently in Oakland, Vallejo and Daly City. Some robbery victims have also been pistol-whipped, according to police. No suspects have been arrested in the robberies.
Oakland officials are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of suspects in armed robberies there.
