Hayward firefighters quickly extinguished a grassfire in the residential area above Cal State East Bay Tuesday, leaving nothing to chance on a day where hot, windy conditions sparked fires across northern California.
The Hayward fire charred 10 acres of hillside along Hayward Boulevard between Tribune Avenue and Civic Avenue.
Two outbuildings were destroyed, but no homes were damaged and there were no injuries.
The fire began sometime after noon and within an hour, firefighters had quenched the flames and were pouring water on hot spots.
The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag warning indicating a high chance of wildfires between 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday in the Bay Area hills.
