Gun Buy-Back Successful On Deadly Day In Oakland

A gun buy-back program in Oakland on Saturday was so popular that organizers worried they would run out of money before all of the guns were collected.
Organizer and State Senator Don Perata said that he will try to raise money to hold another buy-back in Oakland.
The successful gun buy-back effort occured after what was a deadly day in Oakland.
Meanwhile, police were investigating at least five shootings in Oakland that occurred within less than 18 hours on Friday and Saturday and left at least two people dead and five more injured.
The latest was a drive-by in the 9000 block of Hillside Street that claimed two lives shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday. Three people were injured in shootings Friday night on 14th Avenue and 11th Street.
On Friday afternoon, officers responded to the 500 block of 58th Street and found a victim with gunshot wounds. And Friday morning someone was injured in the 8300 hundred block of International Boulevard.
