Fmr. CBS 5 Anchor Reporter Liz Gonzales Dies At 51

GREENBRAE (CBS 5) ― Former CBS 5 anchor and reporter, Liz Gonzales died Wednesday night at her home in Greenbrae. She was 51. Gonzales was diagnosed with colon cancer 10 weeks ago.

Born in San Antonio, Texas, Gonzales received a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of San Francisco. She landed her first job in journalism as a reporter trainee at KGTV in San Diego, in 1979. She met and married her husband, cameraman Bob Goldsborough, while working as a co-anchor at KOAT in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

After stints at stations in Los Angeles and Boston, Gonzales joined the CBS 5 news team in San Francisco as morning anchor in 1987. She covered local and national stories, including the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake.

In 1992, Gonzales set aside her full-time career in broadcast journalism to be a mother. She continued to work on video projects with her husband. Their most recent collaboration was Ted Koppel's four-part series on China.

Gonzales is survived by her husband Bob, daughters Emily and Grace, her parents, 3 sisters, and a brother.

A rosary well be said on Sunday, October 12 at St. Patrick's Church in Larkspur. The funeral service will also be at St. Patrick's on Monday, October 13.
