Lindy Hop Makes Comeback In Golden Gate Park

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) ― The Lindy is legal again, a week after police shut down what they called illegal dancing in Golden Gate Park.

For 13 years, swing dancers met every Sunday to swing. But police cracked down, telling organizers they needed a permit to amplify sound in the park. Two Sundays ago, they broke up the gathering, giving people 20 minutes to break down their speakers, and sending 200 dancers home.

But the city bent over backwards to get permits for the group, and last week, the Lindy lived on.
