Grease Fire Forces SF Restaurant Evacuation

A grease fire forced the evacuation of a popular San Francisco restaurant Monday night, a fire official said.

No one was injured in the one-alarm blaze at the Globe Restaurant at 290 Pacific Ave. The fire started around 8:10 p.m. and was put out in less than a half hour.

A buildup of grease that sparked in the restaurant's flue may have caused the blaze, a San Francisco Fire Department official said.

Firefighters had mopped up and left the scene at around 9:10 p.m.
The restaurant remained closed tonight and it is not known when it
will reopen or how much damage was sustained.

The fire is under investigation.
