Giants Look To Turn Parking Lot Into Village
According to CBS 5 Insider Phil Matier, the San Francisco Giants are eyeing the parking lot next to AT&T Park. The team reportedly wants to create a ballpark village complete with shops, concert hall, clubs and a garage, on the 16-acre lot currently known as Parking Lot A.
But, there are some hurdles to overcome before the plan becomes a reality. Namely, as many as 2,000 cars normally park in Parking Lot A every baseball game. And, the team of course wants to make sure its fans have a place to park.
That's why the $250 million mixed-use development plan includes a parking structure, not to mention a concert hall that could accommodate between 4,000 and 5,000 people.
The Giants have reportedly teamed up with Farallon Capital Management and Cordish Co. of Maryland to pitch the plan. Cordish is no stranger to ballpark villages, Matier reports that the company is bidding a similar development, at a cost of $650 million, next to Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
The San Francisco bid is anything but a done deal for Cordish because apparently there are other developers who will likely submit proposals by the port's mid-February deadline for the site.
