Sonoma Clean Energy Project Triggers Quake Fears
SONOMA COUNTY (CBS 5) ―
A Bay Area company wants to drill in Sonoma County to search for geothermal energy. While the company claims its safe, some are worried about earthquakes.
Sausalito-based Alta-Rock will attempt to dig down 2-3 miles in an area near the Sonoma-Lake County line to crack hard rock to release heat for power generation. But a similar project is believed to have caused a 2006 earthquake in Switzerland, which was shut down by authorities.
