CHP Report Richmond I-80 Freeway Shooting
RICHMOND (BCN) ―
Police were investigating a Sunday morning shooting on Interstate 80 in Richmond that sent one man to the hospital with gunshot wounds, police said.
A preliminary investigation suggested the man was driving eastbound on I-80 between MacDonald and Barrett avenues about 1:10 a.m. when he was shot, Richmond police Sgt. Tod Opdyke said. The circumstances surrounding the shooting were under investigation.
The driver, 56, of El Sobrante, exited the freeway and pulled into a gas station at El Portal Drive and San Pablo Dam Road, where San Pablo police responded to a 911 call, Opdyke said.
San Pablo police referred the incident to Richmond police because they determined the shooting happened in Richmond, Opdyke said.
The man gave police "limited information" and was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland, where he was treated for gunshot wounds to his leg and lower back, Opdyke said.
Police had received some leads and were investigating, he said.
