San Francisco Food Bank officials said Wednesday that they are thrilled about a recent donation by Kellogg Co. of thousands of boxes of breakfast cereal.
And they were intrigued to note the boxes have Olympic athlete Michael Phelps' face on the front.
Kellogg declined to renew Phelps' contract after he was photographed with a pot pipe.
Food bank executive director Paul Ash said he doesn't know specifically why the cereal was donated.
Kellogg officials responded to questions Wednesday with an e-mail saying the company routinely donates food that is nearing the end of its shelf life but still good.
Either way, Ash is glad to have the items, which he says can be hard to come by.
"It's a huge convenience food," he said.
