1st Grader Takes Gun To SF School
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ―
Authorities have not filed charges against a first-grader who school officials say was discovered carrying a gun at his San Francisco elementary school.
School officials said Monday that talk among children about a gun at the school led Cleveland Elementary School staffers to the weapon in the boy's backpack.
School district spokeswoman Gentle Blythe said the boy thought the gun found Friday was fake.
The first-grader has been suspended as officials decide whether the he should be expelled under the district's zero-tolerance policy for weapons.
Police said the boy has been released to his parents. The case has been referred to Child Protective Services.
