Argument Leads To Fatal Oakland Shooting

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

OAKLAND (BCN) ― Oakland police have arrested two people in connection with the early morning fatal shooting of a 42-year-old man in the city.

Vershawn Baskom was shot at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of 12th and Franklin streets, according to police.

Shortly after 3:10 p.m., a search warrant was served in the 300 block of 12th Street. Two people were arrested and at least one firearm was recovered, police said.

Officers learned that Baskom was walking down the street and got into an argument with at least one suspect, Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason said. When the argument escalated a suspect pulled out a firearm and shot Baskom.

Medical personnel arrived and transported Baskom to Highland Hospital,
where doctors pronounced him dead.

There have been 93 homicides in Oakland this year.
